boredcrapfromhistorygeek5 asked: Part two of two of rant: Another such thing is the who stereotype that the French are rude. They have seen etiquette codes and it angers them when tourists/people in general don't follow them. I.e they would like it if people attempted to speak their language. Like "Bonjour Monsieur, parlez-vous anglais ?" People are a guest in their country so they need be respectful. My boyfreind recalled of a time where a tourist said, "The french should thank us for helping them in WW2" It pissed him off.

I know what you mean.

Of course, in all honesty, I think there is such hostility between our nations on a personal and hospitality-related level that we all just like to complain about each other for the same things the other complains about them… Maybe.

In essence, my reaction to this was “God damn it, I’d get pissed if I heard someone say that too, about my country or not— oh wait; I already do!” I think the only thing we can do is ignore the idiots and just teach our own children not to be such douchebags. Right now it seems like everyone is angry about something and has something to say about it. You may not think so, but we deal with simmilar things here in the USA sometimes! I often hear things where some people say “X demographic should be thanking Y demographic for a,b, and c,” or “A-colored people really owe something to B people because of x and y.”

I apologize if I seem unsympathetic, but really I am trying to say that I understand! I think that since the 1960’s especially, people have been using their “right to free speech” here as an excuse to be complete jackasses. (I- I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the history of the 1960’s-70’s.)

It’s really unfortunate that the assholes that nobody likes (not even in their home country!!) are the people that always stick out like sore thumbs in front of the world. I’d love to just send them all away.

Anyway… if you’d like to you can submit long rants and stories as an actual text submission too! I’m not going to turn it down or anything. :D

boredcrapfromhistorygeek5 asked: My boyfreind and i were having a conversation about some of the hate France gets. Then it turned into bigger conversation about some of the hate the country of France gets. The first thing is the "Cheese eating surrender monkey." That comes from the surrender of France in WW2. What had happened was that the German's Blitzkrieg had overpowered the French's outdated defenses and France had suffered heavy loses in WW1 so they did not a repeat of that. Also people seem to forget the French resistanc

[OMG!! HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN SITTING IN MY INBOX?? HOW DID I MISS IT UNTIL NOW?? I’M SO SORRY IF I KEPT YOU WAITING!!]

This is very true! I should know, I am an American, so I hear a lot of anti-French speak. Though it’s mostly in good humor— it’s not so much that Americans actually hate French people as we are irritated by how among many, MANY other nations, France is highly critical of American activities. Perhaps Americans wouldn’t be bothered by it as much if France didn’t happen to be one of the permanent members of the United Nations, and if we weren’t allies during WWII and, well, since the beginning of America’s history prior to becoming a nation.

Despite how it sounds, I’m not actually trying to defend anyone’s stance on this as much as I’m trying to understand how it came to be. It honestly is very troubling how there is such negative outlook on so many nations by other nations, and it would be so wonderful if we could all just get the hell over ourselves and just get along or something.

I think France may have such a bad reputation for being “cowardly” because France didn’t do as well as some of the other fighters in WWII. This, sort of like what you said, is because, yeah, France has a tendency to get hit hard economically as a result of war. With such an inability to equip your soldiers and to create new war technologies, France was mostly coasting along on spirit and that only gets you so far before logic takes over. After WWII, France didn’t participate much in war (except in colonies, which France eventually pulled away from), so I guess the biggest thing might be that the last big impression that people got of France was probably that France, overall, didn’t do so well compared to other nations during WWII.

He’s not a rapist. If any of you put “France” under your list of “warnings”, I’m coming after you.

People put “France” as a warning?
What?
No, that’s just so stupid.
It makes sense to put languages as trigger warnings, possibly, but countries? That’s just stupid, especially in Hetalia fanfiction. I mean, languages can be legitimate triggers for people, especially if someone was a war veteran, regardless of nationality, or went through some sort of traumatic event overseas or near certain ethnically concentrated areas (wow, that sounds kinda terrible, but the subconscious can’t help it!).
[Please don’t be upset for me saying that Languages can be triggers; you really don’t know until you’ve seen a huge and muscular ex-marine break down in tears because he hears a specific language or phrase in a language.]
France is not a new term for “non-consent;” don’t use it as such. It’s also improper tagging if you are assuming people to understand that as a warning. It’s not cute.

Dear Hetalia fandom,

pomodororossosangue:

Fucking stop. Please.

You know how it’s offensive depicting Spain as a pedophile or France as a rapist? It is, isn’t it? Because you are basically saying the representation of a ENTIRE COUNTRY is a sexual offender, a criminal, a horrible person.

Now, can I get your…

I guess with all the France and Spain, etc. stuff going around, I do sort of neglect this sort of thing.

I guess it’s because I’m an American, where we can kind of dramatize the Mafia as something of intrigue because here it’s a lot… how should I say this…? Cleaner? It’s a lot less dangerous to those on the outside nowadays and we don’t worry as much as one might in Italy. I’m definitely taking note, even though I usually think of the Italy brothers getting hurt by the mafia rather than taking part in their activities.

dalek-parties-are-always-rubbish asked: Sometimes I wonder if we've got it wrong; if Himaruya really did intend France to be a disgusting pervert person and WE'RE the misguided, stubborn fangirls. The thought always scares me.

Yeah, the thought has crossed my mind occasionally, sometimes just as a joke. I find it to be extremely unlikely, since Himaruya Hidekaz seems to show quite a lot of appreciation for France as a place and a character and is especially “playfully respectful” toward this nation in particular. Actually I think the same of The USA.

I’ve wondered once or twice that hey maybe Himaruya really is trying to show America as solely an obnoxious, uneducated jerk (partially because I’m accustomed to seeing that being what people think of Americans from both an in-country and foreign perspective), but after only a few comics I realized, hey, he seems like a nice guy… they all (mostly) seem like nice people!

But yeah, anyway, WHAT IF??

Would that make semi-serious nice stories about France crack? D:

It’s like you’re in the Twilight Zone and suddenly you wake up from a nap and nobody knows who you are, or something.

I think I’d be more than happy continuing to be a horribly misguided, stubborn fangirl if that’s the case!

Because I damn well want to reblog an ask.
I just thought this was worth sharing with anyone who doesn’t already know or just wants to reblog this.

boredcrapfromhistorygeek5 asked: My boyfreind has refused to go to anime events due to people saying, "Don't rape me France." and other things like that. He's french and he finds offensive. He cosplays too. He has asked them to stop but these idiots will not. One time he chewed this girl so badly and was swearing in french at her. He is a fan of character France and enjoys my interpersonal of him as a gentleman but its the France cosplayers that are offensive that piss him off like the ones who says "France is a rapist pedo.".

GAH.

Wow, I hope those people are freakin’ happy for scaring away another person from an event that is meant to be FOR FUN.

Why would they say that to someone? Why would they continue? Why are people such immature assholes about these things? I just don’t understand how people like those harassing your boyfriend can have so little respect for everything.

Sometimes I feel like this fandom consists of two groups: History/current events/cultural/learning geeks and fanatics, and the whiney/unruly/spoiled brats that they’re stuck babysitting.

I know, I’m getting a little dramatic here, but gosh, don’t you just feel like you’re babysitting some obstinate kids sometimes? All logical and all civil explanations go out the window and your only option is to say to yourself “whatever, kid, you’ll probably find out how wrong you are in a couple of years… maybe.”

I’m wondering if this even counts… ;w;
Anyway here’s the (rather long) story
My friend Gully and I run ask blogs for France and Britain respectively (I run Britain obviously and she runs France) and an anon suggested that, since it was the 4th of July and Britain was feeling down, France should go over and they should answer questions together. So we did that, and it was fun, but there was this weird battle that started about who was more attractive, France or Britain. We were having a pretty good laugh about it…
BUT THEN OUT OF NOWHERE(!!)there was this anon (whom we nicknamed karma anon for the lulz) who was getting really, really, really butthurt and like… praising Britain for everything. This was mostly in my inbox, but in Gully’s… She didn’t post any messages, but she told me how karma anon was bashing France for being a horrible, rotten person and how he was “more of a pedo than Spain” and a “womanizing stalker”… Which she didn’t really let get to her, but thought that it would have probably gotten to France pretty badly.
In response, however, she sent me this message and asked me to draw a “not amused France” to go along with it, as well as the little monologue you see below. I was like FUCK YEAH GULLY YOU TELL ‘EM GURL … but she asked me to take credit for it instead.
Long story short, she’s a fucking amazing person for defending France’s case. It all worked out pretty well in the end because karma anon apologized and everything was happy sparkles. :D

Ha ha, of course it counts! I really like seeing things like this. It takes a lot of willpower to handle such situations so well; this makes me really happy.
It’s good to hear that that anon even apologized, usually persistent people like that can get really defensive, even when you’re as polite as possible.
[In my head canon, I think France could handle such comments well except for when he’s heard too much or when he’s just not in the mood for anyone’s bullshit. Maybe he could get set off by someone saying certain things to him though.]
I love this so much. :D

found this on my facebook rp account.

not sure how to tag this.

Ha! That’s pretty good, I think. I see someone saying that and the only option is to say “WTF is wrong with you?” Usually the newer fake error messages are pretty stupid (but not always).

Actually, the joke is probably someone typed in “France is an evil rapist!!” and then the above message “popped up.” I wish that would happen to people!

I’m sure you’re all thinking what I would have said anyway. v.v

You can stop anytime now. As fun as it is to run a blog like this, I wouldn’t mind having to shut it down because everyone suddenly stopped being ignorant, completely stupid, and unfunny.
From the context I guess France is crossdressing as a princess. That’s fine, I guess, but girl, that doesn’t make you a lesbian for being attracted to that. It doesn’t make you bisexual or pansexual either… it just means that you are attracted to at least one man who happens to be dressed as a woman. It happens.

Anonymous asked: In regards to post 24373375773, according to wikipedia "Private, non-commercial sexual relations between same-sex consenting adults 16 and over have been legal in Cuba since 1979, although same-sex relationships are not presently recognized by the state as a possible marriage. Despite elements of homophobia in Cuba's history, Havana now has a lively and vibrant gay scene" Although same sex mariage is not legal, they are discussing a bill to legalize it =D

Ah! Thank you, I didn’t know. So basically it’s like various places in the US. I mean, you know, even though same sex marriage is already legal in some States. (My State will be voting on such a bill soon.)

I guess Cuba really doesn’t have anything to do with that comment then. :P
